Cuppa & Capture

Cuppa & Capture (C&C) takes place on alternate Mondays, and we are delighted that the group will be meeting up again at 12 noon for a brew and a natter before heading off to take pictures around York. With a new theme each time, C&C encourages a fresh look at our beautiful city.

Getting back to meeting up for the ‘Cuppa’ aspect of C&C feels like a very positive step forward in getting back to some element of normality. We understand and respect the fact that some of you may still not be ready to take this step, which is perfectly understandable, and you are of course more than welcome to capture images and then submit them to the Gallery as usual.

For those of you who feel comfortable meeting up, we would encourage you to do so. Not only would this support the Theatre Royal, who are generously providing us with a large, dedicated area for us to meet safely, but it would also greatly enhance the much-valued social dimension, allowing interactions that are so important to our photography. There is plenty of space so social distancing will not be an issue. There is a lift as well as the stairs, and you can ignore the ‘no entry’ sign if you are with our group. Any food will be brought upstairs if you let them know when you place your order. For those don’t want to meet inside there is some outside seating available too – please also let them know you are with our group if you are sitting outside.

The Club now attracts members from a wide geographical area as well as younger members who work and cannot necessarily meet up in York or on a Monday. Those members and anyone not comfortable coming into York are welcome to take part in the ‘Capture’ element, submitting images taken in their local area on the day or, if that’s not possible, at another convenient time during the week of the outing.

That said, we would still want to encourage you to join the group in York whenever possible so that you get to know other members and share your photography with them.

All Club members will receive an email from our C&C organiser, Bryan Stanton, via the Secretary in advance of the sessions, with information about the date and topic. There is no additional charge for this activity; it is included as part of your membership.

Non-members are welcome to a free ‘come and try it’ session to see whether they would like to take part more regularly. If so, they can either pay £3 per session or we would encourage them to take out an annual ‘Cuppa & Capture/Photo Walk membership’ (C&C/PW membership) at £15. This annual subscription allows them to take part in all Cuppa & Capture and Photo Walk sessions during the course of the season (1 September – 31 August). If you are interested, please contact Sue, our Membership Secretary, who will send you a C&C/PW membership form.

After the session, you are invited to submit a maximum of five images to the web team at web@bishopthorpecc.co.uk for inclusion in a C&C gallery on the website. The deadline for submission is midnight on Monday a week after the outing, which means that you have a full week to submit your images. Please follow the ‘Submitting Images’ guidance for C&C on the website at https://bishopthorpecc.co.uk/submitting-images/ and feel free to ask the web team for advice if you’re unsure how to go about this.

For future C&C themes, please check out What’s On at https://bishopthorpecc.co.uk/whats-on/ and see also the galleries from past outings at https://bishopthorpecc.co.uk/galleries/.

If you’d like to find out more about C&C, or have any questions, please email Bryan at candc@bishopthorpe.co.uk.

Images shown below are just a small selection taken during previous Cuppa & Capture outings. All the images, together with a short report on each outing, are posted in the Cuppa & Capture Galleries.
