Activities
Meetings & Programme
Our interesting and varied programme incorporates a mix of invited speakers, practical and critique sessions. We meet on Zoom and in person.
More information about our meetings and all of our activities can be found under 'What's On' (https://bishopthorpecc.co.uk/whats-on/)
Annual Lecture
We are delighted to be relaunching our Annual Lecture series in May 2027 with a very special guest speaker.

Exhibitions
The Club has been holding its Annual Photographic Exhibition at York Theatre Royal since January 2021. Our next exhibition will be held in January 2027, and members of the public are welcome.
Cuppa and Capture
Cuppa & Capture takes place on alternate Mondays with a fresh theme each time. Members meet upstairs at York Theatre Royal from 12 noon for a 'Cuppa' before heading off for the 'Capture' element.
Photo Visits
The Club runs informal Photo Visits to both rural and urban locations, mostly around Yorkshire but sometimes a bit further afield. This year we will be revisiting favourite locations as well as exploring new ones.
Club Outings
Once or twice a year, there is a group outing to places that are likely to be of photographic interest. Partners are welcome to accompany members, and public transport is often used when we go further afield.
Monochrome Interest Group
The Monochrome Interest Group (MIG) is incorporated into the main programme. During the season, two evenings are devoted to monochrome photography. These usually include a short talk and the presentation and discussion of images submitted by members on a set theme.
Challenges
Our 'Challenges' and proved popular when they were introduced during lockdown, so they have continued to be set periodically, although less frequently than during lockdown, when we had less to keep us busy!
Our Challenges encourage members to learn new editing skills or to think about how to present their images in new creative ways.
Sharing our photography
Our 'Sharing our Photography' evenings promote discussion of our photographs and the sharing of ideas. We hope that this encourages members to think about their photography in new ways.
Competitions & Reviews
The Club no longer holds formal competitions, but instead we have an 'End of Season Review' session, where members submit up to five images that are viewed by a guest photographer, often one of our visiting speakers. The reviewer gives their considered feedback, with constructive suggestions about how the image could be improved.
We also have a lighthearted 'It's a Christmas Knockout' competition, with the winner decided by members’ votes.
Courses and Workshops
Courses are no longer a regular aspect of the Club's activities, but look out for shared resources, coming soon.
Social
We pride ourselves on being a friendly, welcoming camera club and after our in-person evening meetings, we usually go to the nearby pub for a drink and a chat. Meeting up before Cuppa & Capture is also a great way to interact with others, and there are popular lunches in the summer and at Christmas.
Annual General Meeting
The AGM is held at the end of the season. The next AGM will be held on Tuesday, 8 June 2027.
