Robert Osborn: Sometimes the Art Takes Over
Be prepared for an evening of outstanding portraiture by a remarkable man, full of character. Robert has an art photography gallery in Livingston, Montana, where he has lived for the past twenty years.
Photography has been the major influence in his life since he was given a box Brownie camera at the age of ten, realising that, through the viewfinder, he could find beauty and order in a chaotic world. Over many years, he concluded that the people of Montana were more photogenic than the landscape they inhabited and he began photographing them.
Robert was drawn to the Montana cowboys and began to ‘shoot’ them around fifteen years ago, publishing a fine art book ‘The Cowboys of Central Montana’. He gets to know his subjects and some become friends. He was drawn to the character of the Native Americans and has undertaken projects involving Indians of the Northern Plains and the street people of the Fort Peck Indian Reservation. In 2018 he was adopted into the Nakota Assiniboine Tribe of Montana’s Northern Plains.

Robert’s photographs are works of art. He collaborates with his subjects, sometimes finding that “the art takes over” in the creation of a final image.
