Challenge #21: The art of multiple exposure photography  Challenges, 6 September 2025

This Challenge invited members to create up to five multiple exposure images, each comprising two or more images. These could be created either in-camera using built-in functions, or by post-processing techniques using standard image software packages or one of the many freely available smartphone apps. There were no ‘rules’, and no right or wrong way to tackle the Challenge. Members were encouraged to have fun, and to play with different combinations of images and blend modes to achieve unique effects.

This technique has already been adopted by a few of our members, but it was great to see others experimenting with this technique, some for the first time. It should come as no surprise that a good number of our members rose to the occasion, coming up with an impressive array of creative images with artistic, sometimes surreal effects. The technique clearly lends itself to a wide diversity of genres and styles, from beautiful landscapes and whimsical florals to graphic architectural, quirky portrait and gritty street photography – in some cases blended together!

Thank you and well done to all of our members who contributed images; your enthusiastic participation and splendid images make running these Challenges enjoyable and worthwhile. Whether or not you submitted images, do take a look at this gallery, which I hope you agree showcases a successful exploration of “the art of multiple image photography”.
