Renewal and hope
This C&C outing is the first of a series of four events intended to help members interpret and find inspiration for images that reflect each the four themes of Challenge #16. We are starting with Theme 2 (Renewal and hope), rather than Theme 1, in order to allow more chance of capturing spring-like photographs that might fit with the Theme, if that’s your focus. These images will form the basis of our Summer Exhibition at the York Theatre Royal.
The Coppergate Woman production references Ragnarök where, in mythology, following the apocalypse the world (or in this case, York) rises again. The images in this theme will portray ‘renewal and hope’.
Spring, for example, could represent a metaphor for renewal, providing opportunities at this time of year for both traditional and creative interpretations. Alternatively, images could portray the revival of friendships and communities as we come together after the constraints of the pandemic, or the re-opening of venues and shops.
More concretely (no pun intended), building and redevelopment work, renovation, restoration and repair are happening everywhere we turn, and all signify hope for the future of our city. You might come across a wedding, a baby or an uplifting celebration that make you feel positive and give you hope for the future. Feel free to come up with your own ideas; it will be fascinating to see how you interpret the theme.
Remember that this session is intended to get you thinking about ‘renewal and hope’ in relation to York, rather than directly to the Coppergate Woman production. It may well also jog your memory in terms of having other suitable images in your archives that you would be able to submit for the Exhibition.
Meeting up at York Theatre Royal at midday will maintain the central social aspect of the Club by getting together and also allow you to share ideas before going out and about in York to take your photographs. We would encourage you to take advantage of this, but if that’s not possible, you could still use this outing as inspiration for you to take photos at another convenient time.
We are keen to include members who do not live locally, so please note that, whilst it would be appropriate where possible for your images for the Exhibition to have a link to York or a local flavour, how closely or explicitly they are related is open to interpretation, so you should still feel free to submit images that you think fit the brief.
Please submit up to five images for C&C in the usual way.
Note that the guidelines for image submission for the Exhibition are different and are set out in the Challenge #16 information.
