Club Exchange: York Photographic Society

Seeing the work of members of other Clubs and listening to other photographers is a great way to open our minds to new ideas and inspiration, and we hope very much that members will join us when we welcome York Photographic Society (York’s longest established photography club and indeed one of Britain’s earliest photographic societies) to join us for a Club exchange evening.

Fellow photographers from YPS will be giving presentations on a variety of subjects.

Alison Taylor ‘Saltwick Bay’
Description: Saltwick Bay is a small bay south of Whitby  and it is a photography delight as there is so much history and variety available on the rock shelf and around Black Nab.  The fact that it is only accessible at low tide and for a couple of hours a day enhances it’s appeal and means that every visit is unique and often far too short.  I aim to present some of my favourite photographs showcasing all the delights of the bay.
Allan Harris ‘Memories’
Description: I’ve been taking photographs for over sixty years but the photos I shall be showing are family orientated
starting with other members of my family. My great uncle Stanley was a keen photographer before the First World War, my late Uncle Roy
was also a keen photographer until his premature death. During the lockdown and isolation of the last years I have digitised my collections
of old photos. I shall concentrate on B&W images from the 1960’s.
Antony Ward ‘Teesside’
Description: There will be images of the industrial landscape, night shots, some long exposures and the famous Paddy’s Hole, old boats and wrecks and the abundant bird life to be seen there.
John Shepherd ‘Life After Retirement’
Description: My interest in photography began whilst serving in the RAF and I continued to be a wet process Black and White worker for the next twelve years. Family life and an increased interest in outdoor physical activity reduced my photographic activities to record shots, the family, and the occasional family wedding.
An accident in 2001 curtailed many of my physical activities so I returned to photography, I always had an interest in the natural world and by now digital photography was in its infancy and a route to make chemical free images. This provided me the opportunity to continue outdoor activities and record the natural world around me.
