Rajani Ramanathan: My journey to mastering fine art photography
We are delighted to welcome Rajani Ramanathan as guest speaker to Bishopthorpe Camera Club. In Rajani’s own words: “Life is a journey, a journey that shapes your life!”
Rajani will be describing her journey to mastering fine art photography, giving us tips and tricks about how we might elevate our own photography game.
Rajani is passionate about photography and her wanderlust allows her to indulge in her passion. She does not specialise, enjoying landscape as much as street, portraiture or shooting wildlife.
“I feel very blessed for the opportunity this has given me not only to capture the wonders of the world but also to realize how fortunate I am when I see what people have to endure and be denied even the basic human rights and necessities of life! Travel makes me humble and appreciate my life better!”
Albert Einstein said “Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.” Rajani can relate to this, and feels that it is when she connects with the environment or the people/wildlife she photographs that her pictures best convey her empathy with her subject.
“Cameras today make it easy with the technical aspect, it is the emotional intelligence we bring to the picture that can tell the story best!”
Rajani does not specialize, enjoying landscape as much as street, portraiture or shooting wildlife. Every trip and every interaction provides new perspectives about how different and yet the same people are, from the simplicity of skilled fishermen in Myanmar Inle Lake, to the Chanka or the Cañari tribes of South America, to the Berbers in Morocco.
In her ‘everyday’ life, Rajani works in computer technology, but she manages to carve out time to dedicate to her photography work. She has won several international competitions and teaches courses for the Photographic Society of America.
