Roger Hance: All the gear and no idea

We are looking forward to welcoming Roger Hance FRPS to Bishopthorpe Camera Club. Roger is an experienced and multi-award-winning photographer from Colchester, Essex.

Roger does not limit himself to one ‘genre’ of photography and is accomplished in many areas, including landscape, natural history, sport, portraiture, photojournalism and live rock music. In 1990, he won the ‘Amateur Photographer of the Year’ award in AP magazine, which was judged by the late Lord Patrick Litchfield and gained notoriety when he was awarded three Fellowships in the same year, in the Portrait, Applied and Pictorial categories, followed by a fourth one in 1998 in the Natural History category with a panel of prints on British Fungi. During the last 20 years Roger has served on various RPS Assessment panels.

Roger enjoys inspiring other photographers and has always liked giving talks to photographic clubs and the interactions that he can get from showing his images.

Roger used to be a confirmed Canon user but changed to the Olympus micro four thirds system when he noticed that several of the top natural history photographers had done the same. He has since become an ambassador for Olympus cameras and an envoy for Permajet Ink Jet Papers.

Roger’s talk tonight will be ‘All the gear and no idea’.  As Roger says, some people have all the latest camera equipment but never seem to take consistently ‘winning’ images, whereas others regularly seem to produce fantastic images. There are numerous reasons for this, and in his talk, Roger will explain how we can avoid some of the pitfalls.

Roger will also show some of his best images across a range of subjects and will explain how and where he took them.  He will show the original ‘raw file’ and then the ‘finished image’ and explain how an image can be improved significantly with careful processing.

For more information, please see Roger’s website, Facebook and Instagram pages.

Visitors

Visitors are welcome (£5 per person, or £7.50 per couple, shared screen). We have introduced a new automated booking system so you can book a place simply by clicking on either the ‘Buy Single Visitor Ticket’ or ‘Buy Joint Visitor Ticket’ button at the bottom of this page.

After selecting your single or joint ticket type, you will be asked to register for or login to your account. This is necessary for us to confirm your booking and send you the Zoom link automatically by email. You only need to register once.

Once you have booked, the Zoom link will also appear at the bottom of this page whenever you are logged in, so if you inadvertently lose the email, you can still be able to access the Zoom link on the website.

We hope that you will find the automated booking system straightforward to use, but please contact Julia if you have any problems.
