Ken Scott: Touching the light
Ken Scott is a photographer, adventurer, speaker, and coach from Sussex. He is best known for his mountain landscape and light photography, which reflects more than forty years of walking and climbing in Britain and overseas.
In recent times his photographic repertoire has expanded to include a diversity of styles from intimate nature to abstract art, which have emerged from the discipline of daily practice, making a picture a day since 1 January 2008.
Ken regularly gives photographic talks and presentations to camera clubs and outdoor organisations throughout the UK, and for many years has been a judge and appraiser on the camera club circuit, becoming influential in the training and development of judging practice.
Tonight, Ken will present his talk ‘Touching the light’. This description from Ken’s website gives a flavour of what to expect in his ‘landmark presentation’:
My photography grew up in the mountains of the UK, where I taught myself to respond to the rhythms of the land and the light, working instinctively with the landscape and intuitively with simple cameras, inspired by the work of the late and great Galen Rowell. My own brand of ‘mountain light’ photography became “Touching the Light”.
In this landmark presentation, I share with you some principles and stories for BEING in the landscape, for becoming attuned to light, for going with your own flow as a photographer.
“My approach to photography is very simple; it is about experiencing, feeling, sensing; immersing myself in and responding to whatever environment I find myself in.
I don’t go to places to photograph them; I go to experience them fully, then images follow naturally. The harder I look the less I see.”
