Industrial
You may fancy delving into York’s history for this one, a few of members may be lucky enough to remember the City’s industrial heritage first hand.
York was a a major site of railway engineering and construction in the 19th century but besides the ‘Railway Museum’ little remains of that industry in the contemporary City. York is perhaps best known for the confectionary industry of which only Nestlé remains. The Rowntree Works off Haxby Road is now repurposed as apartments as is the Terry’s factory by the racecourse and Leetham Mill on Rowntree Wharf.
It will be interesting to see what industrial gems members find, hopefully there will be some less obvious examples or perhaps intriguing perspectives or sepia toned edits redolent of the past.
